Germany's Finest Hours

The first stellar moment for the German national team came in Switzerland on 4 July 1954. Life-size representations of the "Heroes of Bern" welcome you at the beginning of the exhibition and point you in the direction of more magical moments, not all of which were crowned with titles.
At the 1966 World Cup, Geoff Hurst's famous "Wembley goal" put paid to the next triumph. You can view it from different angles. Was the ball in or not?
That 'once-in-a-century' goal was followed by the game of the century against Italy in the 1970 World Cup semi-final. We show pictures of a dramatic extra-time period in which five goals were scored.

The national team returned to the World Cup throne in 1974 with a 2-1 victory over Holland thanks to Gerd Müller's winner. The shirt worn by Germany's all-time leading scorer has a place of honour with us.

Relive the highlights of the 1990 World Cup in Italy while admiring a model of the Stadio Olympico in Rome. Memories of the last World Cup win in Brazil in 2014 are invoked by one of the museum's most spectacular exhibits. Yet another stellar chapter in the history of the national team!
